Providing comfortable, comprehensive pediatric dentistry in Alexandria, Virginia

As a parent bringing their child to the dentist for the first time, you’re understandably worried about how it will go.

Family dentist Dr. Farhan Qureshi welcomes patients of all ages into his practice. He’s also eager to help you feel comfortable entrusting your child’s dental health to him.

Start Healthy Habits Early!

Some parents feel they should only bring their little one to the dentist once they have all of their baby teeth. But the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends “first visit by first birthday.”

What’s the reasoning here?

Unfortunately, there’s an alarming trend of increased cavity rates among preschoolers. Kids as young as 2 can develop serious tooth decay that can cause subsequent medical problems. Those teeth are also necessary for nutrition and healthy development of the developing adult teeth.

What to Expect During the First Dental Treatment

By bringing your 1-year-old in to see Dr. Qureshi as soon as possible, he will check to make sure all the teeth are coming in correctly. You’ll also be informed of your child’s cavity risk and steps you can take to lower that. So this first visit is not a waste of time!

Besides this, it’s a great start for your child. As he or she gets older, they will see dental visits as routine and won’t develop an irrational fear of dentistry.
